General IRC Meeting 3 August 2016 / Kohacon 2017 bidder information
Hi everyone, the next general IRC meeting is next week, 3 August 2016, 10:00 UTC. Conversion to your local time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Koha+IRC+General+Meeting&iso=20160803T10 You can find the agenda here: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/General_IRC_meeting_3_August_2016 This is the last meeting before we close bidding to host Kohacon 2017. It would be nice if bidders would join us at the meeting and tell a little about their plans. If the meeting is not an option, please send a message to the mailing list explaining that you are still interested in hosting Kohacon 2017, and please update your proposals in the Koha wiki now if necessary: Narrow down the proposed dates if possible, update conference locations, add contact emails(!). https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/KohaCon17_Proposals We are still open for proposals to host Kohacon 2017 until 10 August 2016 UTC. Cheers, Mirko -- Mirko Tietgen mirko@abunchofthings.net http://koha.abunchofthings.net http://meinkoha.de
Hi All I just want to second Mirko's email about Kohacon17, at the moment we only have the one bid (For the Philippines) as Kohacon was in Europe this year and can't be in the same continent within 3 years. However there is a real lack of information, or contact with any people in Philippines about their bid. For example the hosting organisations are named as the National Library and Onstrike, but the community has had no contact with anyone from either organisation. So we really need either a mail to the list of them to show at the next meeting. Also I would heartily recommend any organisation outside of Europe or Africa (the last 2 continents) to propose also. It isn't too late, but we do need an actual contact so we can be sure things will happen. Thanks Chris On 29 July 2016 at 20:56, Mirko Tietgen <mirko@abunchofthings.net> wrote:

as Kohacon was in Europe this year and can't be in the same continent within 3 years.
Little bit a side note: As I understand, this is some kind of unwritten rule in the community. Maybe we should write it down somewhere and relax it a little bit? KohaCon should preferably not be held on the same continent twice in a row (unless an alternative is not available). Or something similar ?? Marcel

We actually wrote it down in November of 2010, and it has been in place for every Kohacon since then. It is a safe guard that means that the conference isn't continuously in the same country. I think it has worked spectacularly well, and meant that smaller countries have a good chance of hosting. I don't think it needs to be relaxed to twice in a row, but if there are no other bidders then I think an exception could be made in that case. Chris (Who is grateful that Kohacon has meant I have gotten to places like Greece, Nigeria, Argentina, etc) On 2 August 2016 at 21:27, Marcel de Rooy <M.de.Rooy@rijksmuseum.nl> wrote:

Is it too soon to bid KohaCon 2019 for NZ ? On 3/08/2016 9:31 PM, "Chris Cormack" <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz> wrote:

Hi All At the meeting last night we clarified the state of the bid from the Philippines, and the wiki has been updated to reflect it https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/KohaCon17_Proposals You can read the mintues of the meeting linked from here https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/General_IRC_meeting_3_August_2016#Minut... Chris
Greetings, It has come to my attention that the National Library of the Philippines is still under renovation, and thus the Philippines is withdrawing its bid. Sorry.
