Stupid newbie question: Retrieving book details from public servers
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 After managing to install Koha 1.3.3 on my Red Hat 8.0 system (see previous post), i'm trying to enter books from my private library into it. I believe that Z39.50 should let me retrieve details from the LoC server by just entering the ISBN. How do i configure this? (The mailing list archive gives too many hits for "Z39.50 server" for me to find the right info...) I found the Z39.50 servers link in the Koha admin page, but it doesn't work - it just generates a blank page with '<html>' in it. It might be good if Koha came with a default set of Z39.50 servers... - -- Paul http://paulgear.webhop.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+O0Oi0yv0OWRYqWwRAhFZAJ4tmpTiJRG2Ax3u3lz95CpTJA5ZnACeN/FU engVWIrzs3c0kORoM6kQwdM= =kpxa -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
The stable version of Koha, version 1.2.3, does come with the Library Of Congress in the US configured by default. I'm pretty sure that the Z39.50 client was broken in 1.3.3, and it doesn't sound like it'll be ready for 1.9.0, although I guarantee it will be back working again before 2.0 goes out. Koha is numbered in the same fashion as the kernel, the minor number (the second number in the version string) is odd for unstable releases and even for stable releases. Steve is right for 1.3.3 and 1.9.0. About z39.50 back for 2.0 : do you plan to "unbreak" it Steve ? ;-) -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)

It seems pretty broken in 1.2.3 to me, too. It consumes 100% of CPU when it's doing nothing, doesn't clean up its children properly, and stops servicing requests after about 3 or 4 requests. (This is on RH8, which uses Perl 5.8.) - -- Paul http://paulgear.webhop.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+PlY90yv0OWRYqWwRAtm4AJ9ZmvP1KOWLgdn3uLvNNC4MX3bgAwCfamUP jD635I8H5V1AuQXuhaGfOqk= =vjuW -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
