software.coop has agreed to evaluate the idea of hosting #kohacon11 but we've been a bit busy (as ever). What do they need to know? We're still a fairly small company (not being able to pawn the company makes growth slower but stabler) so how many people would we need? Any notes the people at Catalyst can share? HLT? Plano? Hi All, I live in a cute small town that is in the wine country of California, Petaluma. Also, the town is scenic with lots of good restaurants and shopping. We're 30 miles from the ocean, 45 minutes from San Francisco, and we have three international airports all within 1 to 1.5 hours from here. Now that we have Koha libraries (and more on the way) here in California, it would be great to have a conference here so they could attend. We have a Sheraton in town plus some other economy hotels so we could hold the meeting at the Sheraton (depending on cost) or possibly at our community college or junior college or possibly one of several other venues here. I haven't checked into anything but the Sheraton. Any interest? Lori 2011/1/13 Chris Cormack <chrisc@catalyst.net.nz>

Hi All, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane ( www.vpmthane.org ) would like an opportunity to host KohaCon 2011. VPM, Thane is an educational institute located in Thane which is right on the outskirts of Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. VPM, Thane is the founder of the Granthalaya.org ( www.granthalaya.org ) project which is doing a lot to promote Koha in public libraries in this region. VPM, Thane is on a large campus which houses various colleges like Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, Advanced Study center, Polytechnic providing education from 11th standard upto PHD. The campus has five libraries which are in the process of migrating to Koha. VPM also has BLIB and MLIB courses on the same campus so has a number of library science teachers and students. The campus has several seminar halls well equipped with Internet connectivity, Audio and Video equipment as well as web casting capabilities. The campus also has excellent canteen facilities and in Thane city we have Domino's and Pizza Huts too.. Thane city has several nice hotels & is very close to Mumbai so air connectivity is not an issue. The ideal time would be first week of November as it is Diwali holiday's so wont conflict with academic schedules. November is also a very pleasant season in this region. India is a beautiful country and you wont have a better excuse than KohaCon to visit us. So what say ya all? Lori, I'm of two minds on the Petaluma proposal. On the one hand, I'd like to have KohaCon there because that's just down the road from my library in Oakland; on the other hand, I'd like to have it in a foreign country because I could have an excuse to travel! Seriously, I'd be happy to help with the planning in any way I can if there's interest in having it in Petaluma. Daniel Grobani Library Technology Specialist John A. I like India or the UK for similair reasons. The US had 2009, and have a kudos conference this year too. I think moving hte Kohacon around to different countries is good. The europeans have had to do the US, and then NZ the last 2, would be nice to have one a little closer to home for them. My 2 cents Chris

I prefer England because my daughter lives there. :) But Thane is closest for us. And Qantas flies direct to Mumbai. India is a very exciting hub for Koha adoption and KohaCon has not yet been to Asia, so Koustubha's suggestion has merit. Bob Birchall CALYX
