Fwd: Help me complete Koha 2.2.9 implemetantion
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Raphael Muonga <chisangaz@gmail.com> Date: Wed, Aug 25, 2010 at 8:57 AM Subject: Help me complete Koha 2.2.9 implemetantion To: st.hedges@gmail.com, mhelman@illinoisalumni.org May I please ask for your help. I have just successfully installed Koha 2.2.9 for the first time on Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have done almost all the Bibliographic Data Parameters settings/definitions and I am able to download Bibliographic Records into Koha using Z39.50 servers. I am also to connect to the Server from client computers on the LAN,. But I have got two (2) problems:- 1. I do not know how to introduce into Koha bibliographic record the number of items for say one book (say 1 or 4 books for the same volume - Excel VBA Programming book) in our Library. Which field should I edit? 2. I have failed to see as to why the system is producing a blank Member Record after I have filled in almost all the required data in the Member Personal Details form and pressing Save button at the bottom of the form. Incidentally each time I retry to fill in the same Member Personal Details form, the fields are bring up the same data I previous entered. But when I try to search for members it shows nil records. Where have I gone wrong. The Search for books whether using OPAC or Intranet is working well both on the Server and Client computers. I anxiously await your assistance. Kind regards Raphael Chisanga Muonga

Koha 2.2.9 is very old and is no longer supported, even for Linux installations. If you must use Koha on a Windows machine your best bet is probably to use VirtualBox or some other virtualization software and install Linux and Koha in a virtual machine. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
Brooke and Owen, My friends, I am very delighted that you responded very positively and constructively. I just stumbled on Koha 2.2.9 on Internet as I was looking for an Open Source Software we can use for our College library. Which Open Source Integrated Library Software can you recommend for me that can run on Windows XP or 2003 since we have not yet migrated to Linux or Ubuntu? I will be glad if you also cited some useful sites for the necessary documentations. Kind regards. Raphael. On 8/25/10, Owen Leonard <oleonard@myacpl.org> wrote:

I don't know of any Open Source ILS which runs on Windows, but I also have never searched for any. I still think you might consider using a tool like VirtualBox to run a virtual installation of Linux on Windows. That way you can use an up-to-date version of Koha and still be working on a Windows machine. -- Owen P.S. If you haven't seen it already, http://www.koha-community.org is the new home of Koha where you'll find information about the latest release. -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
Have you looked at ABCD from BIREME? http://bvsmodelo.bvsalud.org/php/level.php?lang=en&component=27&item=13 Andrew Buxton IDS, Brighton, UK

Its based off a very very old version of koha, 2.0.0 about 2 years older than 2.2.9 which is 4 years old now. I would second the other recommendations to run Koha in a virtual machine if you don't have a way to get a linux server. I wouldn't run a service like an ILS in a shared/general purpose machine (worse if you plan to publish your OPAC on internet). That said, you don't need a "migration to linux" to run koha. Just pick a computer, get an Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS (5 year support) iso and burn it to a CD (or use some specific tool to make a USB dongle bootable), follow the setup instructions, and then come back to the list for further instructions. The Ubuntu server install is pretty straight-forward. And let your XP boxes alone. Install Firefox or Chrome on them to get a better experience. To+
