Chris, IIRC, when I specify a host different from 'localhost' for the MySQL configuration during install.pl, the install fails. This is because 'localhost' is hardcoded in various parts of the install. See http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1323 for details.
