[Koha] Help with z395

I am sure this is somewhere on a past list and I've probably looked right at it. My Debian Sarge Install seems good BUT z39.5 just does not seem to show up anywhere. It is started in the background under user www-data. How can I test it? Search via Koha? Maybe I am wrong in thinking that it should help me in adding books etc? It seems from what I have read so far is that it will pull info from other servers regarding a book that I Search or Add to my biblio this way I do not need to add all the information? Thanks Al
