[Koha] Internationalisation

I see there is Chinese, Polish and French versions of Koha. Does Koha support unicode characters? And what resources are available for translating it into non-roman script languages like, say, Khmer :-) A lot of the software translations use 'PO' files. Could these be used in a Koha translation effort?
