Just browse through the release note for 3.18.0 Beta and didn't see above improvement made to this upgrade! Very disappointed and frustrated as professional catalogers have to put up with the novice interface for another 6 months!
I see that the patch that's there is in "Patch doesn't apply" status. If you wanted to ensure it was in 3.18, then it would have been most effective to do the work required to make it apply, or contract someone to do that. I'm sure Jessie would have loved some extra material support to help the success of his work. Given that the "free" in "free software" is referring to, among other things, "freedom to modify", it's totally within your power to help get features you're interested in in to a particular release.
