Hi marty, your problem may also be due to incompatible mysql server version ( we have already had that discussion on issues with mysql 4 series and the need to revert back). I dont think not starting MYSQL is a problem as your KOHA will not start and will send u a error status 500 message. Also check whether in the z3950-daemon-launch.sh script in line 35 u have given the correct user name. and do use some standard Z 39.50gateways like LOC, AMICUS,CARDIFF etc., Do check ur mysql tables containing the z39.50 result info like z3950results<http://192.168.1.6:10000/mysql/edit_table.cgi?db=Koha&table=z3950results>where KOHA stores all the MARC info u queried on and z3950queue<http://192.168.1.6:10000/mysql/edit_table.cgi?db=Koha&table=z3950queue>to find out if u form the right queries with the right parameters and maybe marc_breeding table too.
