[Koha] Slow running biblio entry

We have entered about 8000 books onto KOHA but when we try to add more has started running very slowly in each field with 5 -10 second delays whilst the field is filled with the data typed for it. The computer is on an ordinary PC and has plenty of memory. No other programmes running on the computer are effected. Any ideas how to fix this?
