Cindy, There are some presentations from KohaCon last year on SlideShare (http://www.slideshare.net/group/koha-ils) that cover reports. Also, I often refer to the database structure in git (http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=blob_plain;f=installer/data/...) when I need to find out what tables/fields are available for querying. As for learning MySQL, I learned that hands on cause I suck at learning from a book so I can't recommend any good reads - except the MySQL manual which I refer to all the time when I'm trying to remember who to query a specific date format or something like that. I'm working on recreating our old reports on Koha and had a couple of questions.
First, for those of you writing your own SQL reports, what do you recommend for someone's who's learning SQL? I've picked up Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes and SQL for Dummies and I've found the Koha reports library but are there other materials/websites you'd recommend? Did you go to any formal training and was it useful?
Second, is anyone using a third-party product like Crystal Reports and, if so, what are you using it for? We've got some reports that might need something more than just SQL and I'm wondering what other people are using.
If you could let me know or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks Cindy
