2b. icon : how should these be selected or assigned? Are these the GMD indicators? This definition or use works when looking at the 'bridge' set of icons but does not work for the other icon sets ie Liblime kids and Nelsonville.
The icons are not designed *specifically* for any category. The npl set contains the icons I created for NPL's specific collections, and they're contributed with the hope that they might be useful to others. But not many people really need the outline of the state of Ohio on their icon for "Local History:" http://acpl.kohalibrary.com/opac-tmpl/prog/itemtypeimg/npl/Local-history.gif
Only the extended search in the staff interface is able to differentiate between fiction or non-fiction or biography (marc fields 008 - 33) or juvenile, young adult or adult (008 - 22) Is that correct?
At some point along the way we lost some of the finer advanced search controls in the OPAC. There has been talk of reviving them in some form but so far it's only talk.
7. Are there any other areas which could usefully help a borrower physically locate an item in the library, using the catalogue?
I'm thinking "Shelving Location," which could easily be set up as an authorized value and tied to your 952 tag. The disadvantage being that changing an item's shelving location means editing the item record. High on my Koha wish list is a means of quickly setting an item's shelving location with an interface like the Transfers interface. Some changes to items shouldn't be limited to those with cataloging privileges. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
