[Koha] Help with Koha authentication

Hello to all, I am working on an application based on Koha, but I see the Koha authentication system is very simple, at least for my purposes. Anybody knows how to improve the Koha authentication with more powerful facilities like users signup, confirmation without administrator intervention, options to restrict users signing up, etc. Any idea?
