I was wondering what the criteria are for koha to split call numbers on labels. I have various long Dewey numbers, but none seem to get split as I understand it. My label layout has barcode and itemcallnumber (for a spine label)
Say I have an itemcallnumber 808.066028, it does not matter how it appears, either as 880.06'602'8 or 880.06/602/8, for example (many similar versions are to be found at the LoC), the number never gets split. I understand being split as in the case of 880.06'602'8 that I have 880.06 on the first line, 602 on the second or maybe 6028, because spines are a limited width and the number would be too long to fit. Making the font size smaller is NOT an acceptable solution...
I'll try to remember to check what our spine labels look like on Monday as we use very granular Dewey numbers which end up lengthy at times. However, call number splitting is a never ending story, given the apparently endless number of ways to split a call number. So, we have a standing bug for this sort of thing. Please feel free to add a comment to http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=2500 Be sure to include an example of the call number as well as the exact results you would expect once the call number is split. While it may not be possible to accommodate every requested method with the current system, we'll certainly try. What really needs to happen is some sort of plug-in or syspref driven splitting system to allow "custom" splits to be made in addition to the "standard" splits. Kind Regards, Chris
