In schools we do this often... Tracking VCR's, Overheads, Carts, Digital Cameras etc... Works just fine - but there isn't a "reserve" type option where you want it next week for room 301 so you "schedule" it. But for on demand and who has what it works. When we put in our equipment we did very generic records - 0Digital Camera, 0Overhead to make it easy to track them and it kept all the equipment record together - I could type 0* and see all the equipment records quickly. Then it didn't matter if we put it in as 0Camera Digital or 0Digital Camera you could still find it. David Schuster Ben Ide wrote:
We just started using our installation to check out equipment. So far it's just some videorecording gear, but so long as we can slap a barcode on it, we can check it out to people.
Would you allow people to put holds on things? I guess in the words of your finance department, it would be "reserving items."

Hi. Recently the Commission realized (after an audit finding) that they need better fixed asset management. They would like to be able to check these items out to people to track them.
I mentioned that function sounds like a library and perhaps they could use Koha for this function. The Finance Dept. would have a separate installation on a different server, but I don't see why they couldn't use the software.
What do you all think? Is there anyone out there using Koha for capital item management beyond books? Do you have artwork or cell phones described and checked out to staff?
Thanx. Lenora
