I had the same issue so it was easy for me to answer :). Basically the patch does nothing but adding one statement to opac-details.tmpl. So you can also do it manually. Just open the file (opac-details.tmpl) in an editor, go to line 295. There should be something like "Checked out" (if you have the English template). Right after it add a new line with: <!-- /TMPL_IF --> Save and close the file and try it again.
