Basu -- Between the time you exported the file and when you imported, probably the character set does not match. This is part of the work you have to do to ensure important UTF-8 handling. You might be able to tell from looking at the SQL file what the settings were at that time. You can tell what they are for your current user by asking mysql: mysql> show variables where Variable_name like "char%"; +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | character_set_client | utf8 | | character_set_connection | utf8 | | character_set_database | utf8 | | character_set_filesystem | binary | | character_set_results | utf8 | | character_set_server | utf8 | | character_set_system | utf8 | | character_sets_dir | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ 8 rows in set (0.00 sec) You probably want to set those in /etc/mysql/my.cnf or ~/.my.cnf. In a worst case, you might have to copy the SQL file and manually remove the parts that wont load, then deal with those separately. --Joe 2009/7/9 Basu Talikoti <basudpl@gmail.com>
