[Koha] handling 008 in marc21

Hello, in marc21 the helper for the 008 field uses different labels depending on the type of resource selected. But since the data from the leader is in a different window, this helper is always set to "books" by default, event if the leader says differently. Has someone made a javascript before to go fetch the value from the 001 in the parent window and change the dropdown accordingly? I haven't found anything like this in the jquery library, and haven't been able to work it out myself so far. Or is there some set up to be done elsewhere that i am not aware of?
