[Koha] Zebra problems

Hi David and Robin,
Thank you very much for your replies.
I am using Marc21. Since I still have not figured out how to see my
records I'm trying Robin's suggestions first.
Stopping and starting the zebra daemon
with
sudo
/etc/init.d/koha-common stop
sudo /etc/init.d/koha-common start
doesn't seem to make any difference.
I've tried rebuilding zebra several
times with several very similar commands as suggested in various
earlier koha problem letters. The output looks about the same each
time.

Suspecting permission issues I followed
the procedures given in the Koha Wiki “Fix Zebra Permissions” to
no avail. Perhaps the permission issues are at a higher level. On
the install log I see that Koha, Mysql, Zebra all have different
users and passwords, and the root user name and password is different
again. Could that cause the problem? How can I change them?
The ls -laR command (from Mark
Thompsett's letter to the mailing list on Nov. 14th) gives:

How are you rebuilding zebra? The way to do it with packages is:
sudo koha-rebuild-zebra --full -v cathlib
If you don't do it this way, you may get permission issues. If you
already have permission issues, let us know and we'll show you how

fix them.

gedit can't open this file as it's not a text file, it's a program, and
so gedit just throws up its hands and gives up.

No, that's safe to ignore as it won't do anything, harmful or otherwise.
There's a reasonable chance that this info will get you going, if not
paste the output of things here (including the commands you used) and
we'll take another look.
