[Koha] search not working

we are using Koha 3.2 on ubuntu 10.04 

item search is not working both in opac and the client page. 

Though we have many records in the database the z3950 search is saying 0
items found. 

What might be the problem? Has someone had this problem and know of a
solution to fix it!
