Hi Shelley,

What version of Koha are you using?

Check your circulation rule - how many holds are allowed for that
category of patron? What is the holds policy for that library?

Also check the following circulation system preferences to be sure they
have the value you want:
- CircControl
- HomeorHoldingBranch
- all of the preferences under the heading Holds Policy

Hope that helps,
Bob Birchall

Everyone,
I'd like to second Ian's idea about basing the cart off of items instead
of biblios since our "titles" are often collections. The items are all
different from one another, much as serials/journals would be. This
would be of great benefit to us.
Thanks.

And basing the OPAC cart off the item type might help with one of my bugs:

Hi,

We are using Koha in a small school now. One of my last hurdles is adding new books to Koha. We were able to add about half of the new books we have through Z39 searches but the remaining books (about 100) aren't being found.

In trying to add these by hand I am running into a problem in that I can't add the authors name to the catalog entry for a book. That field is showing as locked. I haven't been able to figure out how to change that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shawn

It used to be based on items in very old versions iirc.
We switched to biblio for a very good reason I can't remember now...

Hi!

Sounds like your problem is related to this:

Everyone,
I apologize for the newbie question, but we are working on our
frameworks, and can some one point me to a list of fields used by the
Koha system? I know that the 952 fields are used for holdings
information and the 942 is used, as well as the 999. Are there any others?
Thanks in advance.

Just to elaborate, navigate to Administration/System Preferences/Authorities and set 'BiblioAddsAuthorities' to 'On'.

I found that it was also helpful (especially for a school library) to create a custom bibliographic framework containing only the fields we needed. It made manual cataloguing significantly easier for school librarians who might not have much experience with MARC format cataloguing.

Hope that helps!

Emrys

Thank you.

Their non-sharing restriction probably means that setting up a Z3950
server would be out.

I'm wondering about the MARC display available under OPAC. I'm guessing
that would probably not get them too upset.

I've found most of our books from AMICUS or the Library of Congress.
Occasionally I've had to go to the Oxford library.

AMICUS (amicus.collectionscanada.gc.ca, port 210, database ANY) does
require registration. A lot of British books are in their database. Go
to http://amicus.collectionscanada.gc.ca/amicus-bin/self_register?l=0
to register.
