Dear Magnus, 

Which version of Koha you are using if it is Koha 3.04 there is a bug
in generating the barcode. If you are using Koha 3.06 then check whether
this bug is resolved in the version you have installed. 

If bug is resolved then generating barcode is very simple. I can
forward you step by step process of generating barcode, if required.
