On this matter, and as the manual states: "If you want this field to be a 
pull down with limited possible answers, choose which 'Authorized value' 
list you want to use" has anyone got a suggestion as to how to create an 
"auth value" drop down box that has a blank line (easy) that is also 
editable  (difficult.)

In other words the drop down box represents "suggestions" rather than 
absolutes.

e.g. a drop down box for "condition" of a book (952$x) with all sorts of 
suggestions ranging from "fine/fine" to "reading copy only" that cover 99% 
of a cataloguer's input, but will occasionally require a "good, fair 
slipcase, half calf with some cracking, three edges gilt but fading" :=)
