[Koha] Deleting Patron Records

We use Koha V 2.2 in a Correctional Facility Library but seem to be unable to
delete patron records for borrowers no longer at the facility. After
deleting the record and receiving  the confirmation message, and you go back
into the patron file, the patron is still listed. Has anyone else struck
this problem???
