[Koha] Upgrade problem help request

Dear Koha upgrade experts.

Long story about why we're in this mess ... snip, snip, snip ....
Cutting to the chase:


Debian 4.0
php4.3.10
mysql 4.0.24

We upgraded from Koha version 1.2.3 to version  2.2.9.  After running  
koha.upgrade, we ran this koha2marc.pl.

This resulted in an error:

  column 'bibid' cannot be null

We searched the forums and mailing list and found the same problem,  
but no exact solution.  It seems the error came from this function:

$bibid = &MARCaddbiblio($dbh,$MARC,$biblionumber);

If you have a suggestion, we would love to hear it.
