[Koha] Authority records

Several more school libraries in our school district have come on board and are using Koha.  One of the things they are having problems with is how the subject search is done--they feel it doesn't do a true subject search.

I've been looking through things and it looks like we need to import  authority records and I think that would help with doing a true subject search.  Please let me know if I'm on the right track with my thinking and if I am where do we find the authority records to import in?  If I'm not on the right track can someone steer me in the right direction.
