Zoom seems to fail regardless of the Linux distro.

Download ~/Net-Z3950-ZOOM-1.18.tar.gz
Untar it and force an untested install.

e.g. 

cd Net-Z3950-ZOOM-1.18 && perl Makefile.PL && make && sudo make install
