In quick response to your e-mail question, the problem is neither bad data nor bad user. :-D

The data just isn't quite MARC yet.

The examples you provided are what are usually called a tagged MARC format. That is, the field tags are more or less easily identifiable and readable.

What Koha needs to be able to import is a different format, for sake of distinction let's call it true MARC. In true MARC, records are alphanumeric strings and are significantly less easy for us to read.

The first of the two records you gave would probably look something like this (begging pardon, because if I try to include a sample of true MARC, it'll integrate into the message in weird ways):

(The directory, BTW, is the part of the MARC record that makes it possible to put into a matrix or table, telling how many spaces of data belong to each fixed and variable field (fields and counts).)

Anyway, Huck, see if you can find something that looks more like this textstring in your file outputs. You should be able to open it to check in a simple text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, etc.).

It may be possible -- and necessary -- to use other tools to transform your MicroLif file into true MARC.

The server that housed our Follett system..has died..
I was able to keep it up long enough to do the MARC21 export...
which gave me a Microlif.001  file.

When I attempt to upload this into Koha it goes to
http://<servername>/cgi-bin/koha/import/breeding.pl
and gives a The Connection was reset while the page was loading.

I have also tried doing a Lif-Marc conversion with 'MarcRTP'...
which gives me output such as this:
