[Koha] Z3950 Queries Failing.....

Hello, the CS department at my University is trying to set up a library system to catalogue our books, and have had problems getting the z3950 client to get book information from the library of congress.  We're using koha version 1.2.3 on a Gentoo Linux machine running MySQL Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.16.  The errors we recieve are as the following:

DBD::mysql::st execute failed: MySQL server has gone away at ./processz3950queue line 276, <KC> line 22.


Also getting error "Cannot call method 'option' on undefined value" on a line near 169, but that error has stopped after a few changes we've made.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
