Hi all,
I think the LITA forum can be interesting for readers here playing with
Koha.
We are a part of "collaborative projects in the digital age" aren't we ?
It seems that yes, as I read in the program :
http://www.ala.org/Content/NavigationMenu/LITA/LITA_Events_and_Programs/LITA_National_Forum_2003,_Norfolk,_VA/Programs1/Programs.htm
:
*Open Communication for Open Source Software Development: The Koha
Experience*
/Presenter: / Brenda Chawner, Senior Lecturer, School of Information
Management, Victoria University of Wellington
Does anyone from Koha project know who is Brenda ???
Does anyone from Koha mailing lists intend to go to forum ?
PS : i'm on vacation... now, and be back in Sept, 2.

2003 LITA National Forum
"Putting Technology Into Practice" is the theme for the sixth annual
Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) National Forum,
to be held October 2 - 5, 2003 at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside,
Norfolk, VA.
Three exciting general sessions anchor the event. R. David Lankes,
Executive Director of the Information Institute of Syracuse and
Assistant Professor at Syracuse University's School of Information
Studies, will speak on the current state of digital reference
services. Liz Bishoff, Executive Director of the Colorado
Digitization Program, will discuss collaborative projects in the
digital age. The closing session features David Seaman, Director of
the Digital Library Federation, speaking on major trends in digital
libraries.
More than 25 concurrent sessions provide a wealth of practical
information. Topics include virtual reference consortia, digital
library collection management, database-driven websites, metadata
standards (including OAI), XML databases, open source portal
management, cross-database search projects, managing access to GIS
repositories, usability studies, and much more. In addition, for the
first time, the 2003 Forum includes poster sessions, presenting
unique technology applications that solve specific problems, such as
digital rights management in the academic environment, PDA use in
health sciences libraries, and link maintenance and repair.
Add to the Forum experience with a choice of preconference workshops,
a full day on "The Library as a Place in the Digital Age," or a half
day on either "Handheld Library Programs: New Levels of Service" or
"Creating, Managing, and Using Open Source Software in Libraries."
Corporate sponsors of the LITA Forum help to bring the programming
and networking opportunities to attendees. We gratefully acknowledge
the support of Endeavor Information Systems, Inc., Veicon Technology,
Inc., and Swets Blackwell.
An opening reception, generously sponsored by Endeavor Information
Systems, Inc., will be held in the Grand Promenade of the Sheraton
Norfolk Waterside, overlooking the picturesque Norfolk Harbor. Other
networking opportunities include Saturday lunch, continental
breakfasts and refreshment breaks, as well as Saturday evening dinner
groups
organized by LITA leaders.
Registration is limited to 500.
Advance registration closes Friday, September 19 at 2pm CST.
Register by August 29, 2003 to save $40!
