			      6 Dec 2002

Hello everyone,
welcome to another edition of the news about Koha. I don't have much
to say myself this week, but I think the information below will do a
good job of keeping you up to date.

Development:
I'd like to introduce what I hope will become a monthly feature in
this newsletter, a monthly development summary. Here are the stats
for November. (Note: these statistics represent the 1.2 and 1.3
 series together.)

committers (People making changes to the software):
 # commits committer
      1 rangi Chris Cormack
      6 hdl	Henri-Damien LAURENT
     10 lavide David Strainchamps
     12 dragon28 Mike Mylonas
24 fmmarzoa Francisco M. Marzoa Alonso
     28 tonnesen Steve Tonnesen
    241 finlayt	Finlay Thompson
    291 tipaul	Paul Poulain

hot files (the ten files updated most often):
 # commits file
      4 koha/misc/buildrelease
(this is the script we use to create a release package)
      4 koha/misc/installer.pl
(this is the script used to install a koha system)
      5 koha/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/hlt/en/loggedin.tmpl
      5 koha/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/hlt/en/opac-userdetails.tmpl
      5 koha/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/hlt/en/includes/main.css
(these three files are part of the templates used to create the
shiny new OPAC interface at HLT)
      5 koha/opac/opac-user.pl
(the script that drives the user info screen in the OPAC)
      6 koha/C4/Search.pm
(this file contains all the search routines used by Koha)
      7 koha/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/hlt/en/opac-auth.tmpl
(another bit of the HLT templates)
      8 koha/updater/updatedatabase
(the script used to update the database from a previous version
      of Koha)
      9 koha/koha-tmpl/opac-tmpl/hlt/en/opac-user.tmpl
(one more bit of the HLT templates)

As another development note, Francisco M. Marzoa Alonso has started
researching using RFID with Koha. So far, he hasn't written any code,
but says that things are looking promising.

France:
The first installation in france occurs this week : koha 1.3.2
will be installed in ND-Dombes Abbey, in France. Corinne PESQUET, the
librarian, will help debugging the unstable tree and reach a mature
 product quality.

Outside Koha:
 kbarcode -
Paul discovered this kde tool and uses it to create barcodes for the
 Dombes Abbey. This tool is:
 * free software (GPL licenced)
 * graphic (under kde)
 * stable (despite a little lack of documentation, like most of free
   softwares projects)
 * full featured (you can print many barcodes types, and define your
   own labels, your own calatog...)
 * developed by 2 germans.

Its main faults is the same as any other proprietary barcode editor:
it's slow, as barcode generating is a complex task. So, don't
 hesitate to go to http://kbarcode.sourceforge.net

I wonder if every week will be as interesting?

happy hacking,
-pate
