16 kb limit? Ouch....  At the moment our standard is 256 up and  600 something down. Of course the  person on the other end would be seeing the 256..
In france, it's 16 kBytes, so 128kbits. (in french we have 2 very differents word : bit and octet, so we can't make a mistake like i did in english ;-) )
for a little money I can upgrade to 1 gig both ways.. We are that close to the central office, I actually  could throw a rock and hit  the wall of it down the street from where the museum is here!

Yes, I can lease a block of static IP address ... that they will charge me $10 a month for...

How reliable is  dsl though for running servers over!?
Anyway, i think the reliability is the reliability of your ISP. The dsl technology is better than cable one, as the bandwidth is not shared between users like with cable.
If you ISP can guarantee a minimum bandwith, then you can do it.
If not (like here in france. The best ISP guarantee 1kB ;-) minimum), then you must choose wether to take the risk or not ;-)

My ISP (nerim, small only-DSL ISP), does not guarantee anything, but everybody is satisfied with it. In 6 months of DSL, i've only have had half a day with problems.
