[Koha] [EXTERNAL] Re: Open access

I've done something similar with the MedStar Authors catalog. I did it with Elasticsearch; you might be able to do it with Zebra but I don't know.

In the Elasticsearch Search engine configuration, add the 856 field in Mapping under the Bibliographic records tab. It's not there by default, but you can add it at the bottom of the list of fields. You can use the URI as the search field (index). Make it sortable and searchable. (Rebuild the index)

In the MARC record, put the text you want in the $z subfield. The text should be searchable now.

If you want a logo in the record, could you add it to the record as a book cover? I haven't tried that, but it sounds doable.

If you want to see what I did, go to medstarauthors.org and search for ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). The detail screen has the ORCID link as both the $u (link to the ORCID) and the $y (text of the ORCID), the $z has the name of the ORCID holder. You can get more information by going to the How To link at the top of the page. It has the xsl files, field mappings, etc. Look for the 858 field--it's one I added for this instance, but it should work for the 856.

The Authors Catalog doesn't seem to be available everywhere--I've been told that it's blocked in parts of Europe. This may be a GDPA problem, I don't know. I can send you some examples if you can't get to them yourself.

I’m thinking about selling my theremin… I haven’t touched it in years.

Koha doesn't usually host these materials directly, but you can use the 856$u field to provide a link to the resource, and you can customize the XSLT template to show whatever you want if, say, the public note in 856$z contains the text "Open Access". But the next question is being able to search based on this. I believe that's also still possible, but it's harder; I couldn't tell you exactly where to look.
