By default, bulkmarcimport.pl doesn't delete data. You are getting the
truncate errors because you are using the '-d' flag, for sure.

The progress indicator problem is certaintly a bug, and it is interesting
to know that (not)including the items on import changes the behaviour. You
should mention that on your bug report.
