If the code doesn't serve you, you could look at modifying it. The
logging code is quite simple. Just to give you an idea how the
logviewer would display the logs, have a look at

In my case, I needed my custom plugins (.kpz files) to be logged, so I
simply added another option to the logviewer script and added the
brief logging code to my plugin code.

You *could* override what CatalogingLog logs and have it do your thing! :-)
