The folks are right. Sorry for for leading you down the wrong path.
Actually this;

<a href="http://www.amazon.com">Amazon</a>

works like a charm just tried it my self. Thanks for pointing out my
mistake. I was doing it the wrong way, now I know. The Koha community
is great!
