It's quite likely the issue is fixed in a newer version. When Hugo says
that it's old, he's not really stating the case fully. The version you
are running came out in August 2008, so it's over 5 years old.

You will end up wasting a lot of time by getting that working and then
trying to upgrade. Instead, get a new version and install that instead.
