Greetings,
Packages are the best way to go:
http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages
You have three hurdles to jump when doing the installation, four if you
count installation of Ubuntu.
1) Editing files. People new to Linux aren't familiar with how to edit
files.
2) Apache configuration. Koha can install either in a named hosts way or a
non-named hosts way. If you got the OPAC client when you thought you were
supposed to get the staff client, the symptom is based on Apache's handling
of a non-Apache configuration issue. There are some simple things the #koha
IRC channel (http://koha-community.org/support/ scroll down to the IRC chat
area and click here) can help with.
3) Zebra configuration. Packages generally have it working so you just have
to wait a while and the entries should show up -- if you wait an hour and
nothing shows up, then there is a problem. However, people on the IRC
channel can help you with if you don't try to solve your problems first
(fresh clean installs are easier to debug).
In short, chat with the #koha IRC channel
(http://koha-community.org/support/ scroll down to the IRC chat area and
click here) during installation, and then perhaps near the end of the
install have your system administrator/network administrator handy. :)
