In the near future Koha will support better the two standard.

But it is impossible to plan now to support records in both UNIMARC and MARC21 format together in the same installation.
For example tag 100 has a specific meaning (Main Author as persone) in MARC21 and a very different in UNIMAC (GENERAL PROCESSING DATA, as 008 in MARC21).

In theory it is possible but it is very huge change and non ILS has now this feature (thing about Evergreen, Aleph500, Millennium, etc.).
