[Koha] add marc record - z39.50 error

Hi

I just did a fresh install of koha 3.04 on debian.

When I have a clean database, just the default data loaded,  I click
on add marc record i can do a z39.50 search with no problems.

however when i load the data from the backup i did from our old
installation (same version), i try to do a z39.50 search and depending
on which server i try to connect to i get either:

Results
Connection failed to bobcat.nyu.edu

Nothing found. Try another search.

or

Koha error

The following fatal error has occurred:

Can't call method "data" on an undefined value at
/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/cataloguing/z3950_search.pl line 233.

the old installation had no problem with z39.50 searches.
can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
