[Koha] serials subscription fields

I'm new at this Koha stuff, and we're still fiddling with a test catalog
using version 3.01.00.061

 

We barcode individual issues of journals when they arrive, but I'm
trying to de-clutter the display of all those item records - one for
each barcode - under the bibliographic record for the serial title.

 

So ... I'm wondering about inserting the barcode in the "Notes" field
when I "receive" [check in] an issue.  That would hide all the item
records under the "Subscriptions" tab rather than showing them on the
initial bibliographic record screen in the OPAC.

 

 

But I believe we would want to be able to search for those barcodes from
time to time.  So I what I want to know is: 

 

is that "Notes" field I referred to searchable, or can it be made so, in
the staff mode?
