[Koha] LDAP Update problem

Hello,
                Our site is using LDAP authentication against Koha. For the most part, it is fine. However, recently we noticed that when a user logs into the OPAC their Branch Code changes back to the default value in the koha-conf.xml file. I have tried turning off <update> in the conf file but this hasn't made any difference.

Would anybody know of any potential problems to making the branch code in the borrowers table allow NULL values? This way we could leave out the default location code and there shouldn't be any over writing issues.
