[Koha] How do I display item type in a record following a search?

Dear all,
I can't seem to find out how to do the above - I've tried comparing my
set-up with one of the demo sites but can't find any differences that would
account for this.   Other fields in the record display fine, such as author,
title, pub details and so on, as well as holdings, descriptions and comments
in the box.  On the staff side the item type displays fine.
