[Koha] error installing yaz toolkit for koha on debian...help plz

i have downloaded the yaz toolkit and i am trying to install it in the right directory following instructiohs from
installation.unix.tkl.html
however i am getting this error when i try ./configure
andreasa:/home/andreasa/Desktop/install/yaz-3.0.10# ./configure

checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... no
checking for mawk... mawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

and then
andreasa:/home/andreasa/Desktop/install/yaz-3.0.10# CC=/opt/ccs/bin/cc CFLAGS=-O ./configure
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c

checking for gawk... no
checking for mawk... mawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking for gcc... /opt/ccs/bin/cc
checking for C compiler default output file name...
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.
i dont know about changing the config.log file or is there some underlying error.
please help
