The problem is solved. This "server internal error" when performing Z
search is caused by the block of a particular port (210) on the path
from the Koha server to our partner library's Horizon server.

Thanks, Dave!

Hi,

My library is currently using a proprietary ILS which meets all our
needs and a good share of our wants. However, I've been watching Koha
for a couple of years and have been impressed with its advances over
time. I doubt that it would feasible for us to migrate to Koha (we
have lots of bells and whistles with our current system). However,
I'm interested in loading Koha on a development server just to try it
out and see how it works with our data. We currently have around
500,000 items (250,000 bibs), 110,000 borrowers, and 10 locations.

Does anyone have suggestions on what type of server specs would be
good for a development server? I'm interested in "recommended" specs
(not just minimum requirements).

Most of the Koha libraries I've looked at seem to be using Debian.
Would there likely be problems using another distro such as Red Hat? I
think my manager might be more comfortable with a distro that has
mainstream support available (we have no Linux administration
experience).

Are there any MySQL size limits that I would need to worry about?

Is there anything else obvious that I need to consider?

Thanks for your help/suggestions.

Sincerely,

Gem Stone-Logan

Hi there,
This brings up an interesting question(s) regarding our install of 2.2.7, and what
is mentioned in that newbie guide.

1) we don't have a "members" mouseover option, all we see is a "patron"
selection/interface
2) when a patron is created, there are not a multitude of flag options available.
we only have 3 flags to choose from: Gone no address, Debarred, and Lost
3) what am I missing here, as I am also curious how to create a "librarian" account
for our testers

thanks!

- Sean

members/patrons/borrowers .. teh templates call them different things.

Its not when creating, when you have created a borrower, member or
patron :) On the moremember.pl page, there is a link to change
password, and one to modify privileges.

If you choose to modify privileges, you can then assign privileges to
that borrower, thus converting them into a librarian.

If you are using the NPL templates the modify privileges link will be
next to the delete link on the top rightish of the page
