Sorry, I don't think installer.pl will do that. Can you please paste
the exact error message?

You may also find the command
  perl -MDBD::mysql -e print
interesting. That should find out whether the module is
correctly installed for loading into a live perl, rather
than whatever the CPAN module believes.
