Version 2.0.0pre4 contains bug 39, see 
http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39 for details.  
You will need to edit the z3950scripts for the search to work (unless 
your directories are identical to tipaul's).  Basically, all the 
directories are hardcoded, wrong and at present we need a daemon 
running to do the Z39.50 searches.  Directories have been fixed in CVS 
and should be fixed in 2.0.0pre5.  I am still tempted to try 
eliminating the daemon, too.
