You are kind of right :-)
The simple non-MARC interface doesnt present the data in MARC to the
librarians. That is not to say though, that the data isnt viewable and/or
exportable in MARC format.
Its just that the librarians have chosen (by setting a system variable) not
to have to see the records in MARC format.

This is the beauty of storing the data in a relational database, its very
easy to present the same data in numerous different ways. So librarians can
interface with the data in a way they are comfortable with.
