Problem with "hold-ability" of items on order, not yet received
Dear collective brain, We are new to Koha and are on version 3.6. In our first attempt at entering orders in the acquisitions module, it seems as though the titles we ordered, are viewable but not hold-able. Many of the items we order are very popular titles that are not due to release for months out (6 months to a year) but our patrons want to see we're getting them and want to be able to get onto a hold queue for them. How do we input orders in the acquisitions module that allow holds to be placed on them? Maureen McElroy Manager Technical Services Dept. We handled this by creating a "dummy" library called "ON ORDER" then for any material on order we create at least one item record with the owning library of ON ORDER and the correct itemtype & collection code. This way the patron can see it is an order record and place holds if the item type allows. Hi Maureen, there is no way around adding items to your records, if you want to make it possible to place holds. You can add the items in acquisitions by setting the system preference AcqCreateItem to 'Create an item when [placing an order]'. It will make it possible to add items from the order form. You can also use a specific ACQ framework with some default values to make this a bit easier. For example you could use a special itemtype 'on order' and set your configuation rules to allow holds for this itemtype. Hi, We have been on Koha for about 8 months now and are still refining the way we deal with acquisitions. The crux of the problem is that the way Koha wants to deal with Orders ie. A status On order (Not for loan) does not allow reserves to be placed against it. Yet we definitely want to let people place reserves against items on order. For us Items are added to the Bib record automatically when the order is placed. The work around we have adopted is to make a new authorized value <On order> in SHELF (Shelving location field) that we use to indicate the item is on order. This displays in the catalogue in the Home library field (below the home library, if you have selected a home library). We tend to have minimum data in these fields to try and highlight the On order- item type On order in SHELF and that's it. Acquisitions information is complete in the acquisitions section. The down side is that the status of the item is Available when the item itself is not. I am not very satisfied with the clarity of this approach for the public but it allow people to place holds on items on order.
