good day, i subscribed to the mail list of Koha and i saw a complain about an eorror, well i do not have solutions to the issue but wanted if you can be of help to me as regards learning how to use Koha since it is an open sources software. can you share with me your learning curve about how you learn to use Koha? thank you for your nice response in anticipation.
Back in 2012-2013, I learned Koha by installing it, breaking it, then re-installing it, breaking it again, etc. If you have access to something like VirtualBox, you can create a Koha instance, make a copy of it, and practice on that copy. Taking a class in Ubuntu (or whatever you install Koha on) helped me, but probably wasn't absolutely necessary. I still don't consider myself a Koha Expert, but I know enough to get by, and I do know how to install Koha without a support vendor, which I consider is Koha's strong point--anybody can do it. There are many more instructional videos and print guides available now. Look though the koha-community.org web site and the koha-US.org web site. (Full disclosure: I'm a member of koha-US.) The latter group is very interested in education and how to make Koha easier to use. I've been working on a video on how to install Koha from the Ubuntu command line, and I'm about 80% finished. I still need to add something on making the OPAC screen available, add the final credits, and redo the introduction completely since I recorded it with my webcam and it looks and sounds terrible. From bare Ubuntu command line to ready-to-configure staff page takes less than 30 minutes. I'll send you a link to the YouTube video in a separate e-mail. If anybody else would like to see the DRAFT video e-mail me and I'll send you a link. Please don't share it with anyone else, since it's only a DRAFT that needs several bits redone. I'm at a conference next week, so it might take me a while to get back to you. For those of you on the koha-US education committee who have already seen the DRAFT version from last week, the new one doesn't have anything terribly different--just another disclaimer added and a short bit taken out. That video is no longer available. Yes, there's a reason I'm writing DRAFT in all caps, but that's a story for another day.
